Below is a description of the events held to date at the Worlds Wonder.
16th December Loose covers a solo artist performed for the pub’s clientele and could have benefited from more publicity, however, those attending enjoyed the performance.
14th January The Worlds Wonder went back in time to the 30’s and 40’s with a revival meeting. Windows were taped (as per the war days), a piano was purchased for a sing a long, dance floor was laid for the lindy hoppers (and those who wanted to dance) and the pub dressed in bunting and period regalia, even the bar staff dressed for the occasion. Some military vehicles also attended the function, which went on to 3AM the following morning. A great time was had by all and £200.00 was raised for the local branch of the British Legion, and was presented to them in January. Another Revival is planned for June, when a marquee is planned for the beer garden for the dance floor, and additional serving facilities will be provided.
18th February ‘Party in the Pub’, a 60’s to 80’s disco was well attended and fun was had by all, especially when the D.J. got guys on one side of the dance floor, and Gals on the other singing ‘Summer luvin’ the grease song by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John classic. With the likes of ‘oops upside your head’, ‘YMCA’ and other dance singles going down a storm. Further disco nights are planned.
18th March ELVIS in Cabaret, supported by Michelle was a fantastic spectacle, with a real ’Talk of the Town’ atmosphere provided by waitress service to the dinners, and the floor show.
22nd April St Georges day party in the pub Based on the disco theme this was a bit disappointing, however, those that attended had a great night out.
4th May Wonder goes country when this event was staged using the new Marquee for extra space for line dancing. Unfortunately the weather put pay to the all in one price B-B-Q planned for the event, but many people had a fun time.
15th June First ever tea dance at the Wonder. This afternoon event was a wonderful thing to behold the Waltz, Fox trot and other such dances were performed in the marquee by those attending.
16th June Morrismen at the Wonder as the Woodchurch Morris danced and sung the night away with a guest appearance by the owner dressed in his best Hawaiian outfit when they sung ’She wears red ribbons and a hooli hooli skirt’; the mind boggles
17th June The summer 1940’s revival happened with fine weather and a brilliant night for all. The landlord ended up doing the sand dance wit a ladies dance troupe, the additional bar worked well and the marquee helped for the stalls and dancing.
June World cup mania hit the pub with free beer when England win a game—very popular.
8th July Elvis in Cabaret revisited, better than the first floor show, this event is becoming very popular. Another appearance of the ‘Hawaiian beauty’ brought the roof down with laughter.
19th August The second of the Disco nights, a brilliant, well attended party atmosphere occasion, with DJ Kev at the controls; what more can you say?
A fun night with constant armature participation. Two prizes were given for the best performances; one adult and one child. Brilliant night of entertainment.
23rd and 24th September The first Mini Beer Fest was held over the weekend with 6 ales from local micro breweries on offer. The entertainment included a live folk band on Saturday afternoon, followed by the Woodchurch Morris singing in the evening. Sunday saw Billy Brown, front man of Hot Chocolate performing supported by Anastasia - exotic dance.
