Not much is currently known about James Bourne, but it may be inferred that he must have been a benevolent man because he was looking after 2 nephews one of which can be see in the photo of the old beer house; Jimmy Homeward.
In the 1901 census, we can see yet another nephew had been taken in, one Harry A Bootman. From this it is deduced that these were the sons of one or more sister as the surname is different.
Married to Martha (Maiden name unknown) they all cam from Woodchurch and his trade was as a timber merchant; Jimmy Homeward was destined to be the next landlord at the Wonder. |
